Orsoni Venezia 1888 and TREND Group announce with deep sorrow the passing of Lucio Orsoni (Venice, March 6, 1939 – October 27, 2025), a symbolic figure of Venetian mosaic art and the last heir of a dynasty that for over four generations has preserved and transmitted the knowledge of enamel and gold-leaf mosaic craftsmanship.

A direct descendant of the founder Angelo Orsoni (1843–1921), Lucio embodied the contemporary soul of the Angelo Orsoni Furnace, established in 1888 and now part of the TREND Group. He joined the company in 1963 together with his brother Ruggero, contributing to a profound technical and creative renewal that brought the family tradition onto the international stage and strengthened the global prestige of the Orsoni name.

Raised among the colors of mosaic tesserae, Lucio Orsoni studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, actively participating in the cultural life of the city. He exhibited at the Young Artists Collective of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation and at the Venice Art Biennale, with works that are now preserved at the Orsoni furnace. His artistic research, in dialogue with the optical experiments of the 1960s, succeeded in translating the language of mosaic into a modern and conceptual form.

Gifted with a refined aesthetic sensibility and exceptional entrepreneurial intuition, Lucio transformed Venetian mosaic from a niche artisanal tradition into a symbol of Made in Italy excellence, opening the furnace to international commissions and major collaborations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

A tireless advocate for education, he founded the Orsoni Mosaic School, passing on the knowledge and sensitivity of the craft to generations of mosaic artists.

As he loved to say: “To make mosaic, you must think mosaic,” emphasizing the autonomy and artistic dignity of this ancient art.

His legacy will find new life in La Scola, a project dedicated to the memory of Lucio Orsoni, currently under restoration and scheduled to open in 2026: a place devoted to training, collaboration with artists and designers, and the promotion of mosaic as a universal artistic language.

Since 2003, the year the furnace joined the TREND Group, Lucio Orsoni served first as artistic consultant and later as honorary president, continuing to embody the living memory and aesthetic vision of the company.

With his passing, Venice and the world of mosaic lose an authentic Master, capable of uniting tradition and innovation, artisanal rigor and visionary spirit.

His light will continue to reflect in every tessera that bears the name Orsoni Venezia 1888.

The funeral will take place on Monday, November 3 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Santo Stefano in Venice.
