As part of the IX Biennale of Contemporary Mosaic (Ravenna, October 18, 2025 – January 18, 2026), the MAR – Art Museum of the City of Ravenna announces the VII edition of the GAeM Prize – Young Artists and Mosaic, aimed at artists aged 35 and under who wish to engage with the mosaic medium.
The competition aims to promote and support contemporary artistic practices that relate to mosaic — understood as a technique, language, aesthetic, or metaphor — both in its historically traditional expressions and in its more experimental and unconventional forms.
The competition is organized by the Art Museum of the City of Ravenna and promoted by the Municipality of Ravenna and the Emilia-Romagna Region, in collaboration with the State Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna, Orsoni Venezia 1888, Fondazione Cingoli, Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Association of Young Artists of Emilia-Romagna (GA/ER).
Artists can apply in one of the following three sections:
- Works made with traditional materials and techniques for the Orsoni Venezia 1888 Prize;
- Works made with unconventional materials and techniques for the Nicola Cingoli Prize;
- Artistic residencies to develop projects related to the city of Ravenna, engaging with the territory’s specific identity in connection with mosaics and/or its history and contemporary context. This section is organized in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region and GA/ER Young Artists of Emilia-Romagna, both partners and funders of the project Costellazione – Young Creative Connections.
The competition includes the awarding of prizes, the setup of collective exhibitions (in Ravenna at the Biblioteca Classense, in Venice at the historic Orsoni Venezia 1888 furnace, and in Roseto degli Abruzzi at the Cingoli Foundation), the realization of artworks in collaboration with Ravenna’s mosaic studios, the publication of a catalog, meetings and dialogues between artists and the public, and the acquisition of selected works by the MAR.
Application deadline: 1:00 PM on May 15, 2025
